Domain Names are important - get the right name for your site

Over the last 15 years we have learned a little bit about how Search Engines and in particular Google evaluates a Keyword and how Keywords are ranked in order of importance.

We will try to explain a little about how you can improve your sites ranking almost at once. All you have to do is to make a few important changes to your site. (SEO) Search Engine Optimization is complex, but there are a few basic things everyone can do to improve the rankings of their websites.

Domain Names

When it comes to Keywords, your domain is the most important one. No matter if your site is new, or has never been optimized. With the right domain name your site has a great chance of being indexed by Google within days and will have a page 1 ranking for the keyword in your domain.  The choice of a Domain name is critical.
There are many different ways how you can use the keyword, or even more than one in your domain. A common mistake is domain names being registered with the domain name consisting of more than 1 single word put together with another word; this is a big no no!

Keyword Density

Google does check all attributes on the page and apply a weight formula for the number and frequency of Keywords on the page. The position of your Keyword/Search Phrase on the page is also quite important. Longer articles are usually higher ranked than shorter articles. The reason for this is the ratio between keywords and amount of words in the article. Google has a specific formula which is applied to determine the ranking of each page. However do not repeat endlessly the same keywords; as this is the best way of not getting ranked.

The H1 Tag

There are other Tags apart from the Title Tag who have a great importance on a sites ranking. The H1 tag is one of them.

The H2, H3, H4 Tags

The importance of the Tags for Search Engine Ranking purposes will get less the further down we go with the Tags. H4 will be less important than H3 or H2 and so on.
These additional Tags are good use for Keyword display and less so for whole Body text content.  I see a lot of sites that will use a custom tag like, . The web designer should have used an h2 or even an h3 tag instead.

Strong and Bold
Tags in bold have a little more weight, and Google might place a higher importance on the Keyword/Search Phrase if displayed in BOLD. Matt Cutts , the most senior Google Engineer and Department Head, once said, that the strong tag had SLIGHTLY higher relevance than bold since strong is semantically correct in the new xhtml standards. But please don’t make all your Keywords Bold. Always think about how the page for the visitor looks as at the end of the day that is what really matters. Google takes the approach that “Good” is what serves the internet user best.
