How important is Real Time Search ?

Google – Real Time Search is a hot topic

Google has now started to display in their SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages) so called REAL TIME RESULTS.

At this moment in time Google has teamed up with a number of Social Networking sites such as: MySpace,Twitter and Facebook just to name the main three social Networking sites. Google now displays the REAL TIME SEARCH in a box on the SERPs. Real Time Search has been a hot subject for some time now, and Google does of course not explain how they choose what they index and what their criteria is for finding and indexing these snippets of news they find on the various Social Networking sites or on Blogs.

At this moment we can only make an educated guess of what you need to do if you would like to see your news you have published in your Facebook or MySpace account, or for your Tweets to appear on Google too.
In principle Google is likely to spider the posts just like a normal webpage and the Bots will look first of all for Spam content in accordance with their own Filter settings.
It is likely that Google will attach more importance to Tweets depending on how many people will follow a particular Twitter account and probably also take note of the amount of times a particular entry has been re tweeted. This is more or less the same principle as Google would apply to the ranking of normal websites.

From that information and from other factors which are not known or at best very difficult to guess Google does compile some sort of ranking order. If your content fits the bill your info, news item or whatever it is you have placed on your Social Networking Site could be returned as a REAL TIME SEARCH item.

Does it pay to try to get in on the Real Time Search of Google?

Probably not. Real time Search is so fast that Results will never stay a very long time. Not long enough anyway for you to benefit from it. Real Time Search Results can be replaced within a minute or two after< they appear.
Your time and effort is better spent on trying to achieve natural ranking positions on page 1 of Google’s SERPs.

Real Time Search is very much in its infancy, and it will be some time before we know what its future will be. For now at least it is safe to say that it will not have any impact on how the traditional Placement of Search Results are handled by Google.
